

The rays of sunlight spilled across the sprawling lawn, bathing everything in a golden glow. The mansion was already buzzing footsteps echoed in the corridors, laughter rang from the garden, and the faint clink of utensils came from the kitchen. The air carried a mix of turmeric, fresh flowers, and sandalwood incense, each scent blending into the other.
The haldi ceremony was set in the garden, every corner glowing in shades of yellow and white. Strings of marigolds hung from the canopy, swaying slightly in the cool morning breeze. The rangoli on the marble floor shimmered under the sunlight, and relatives rushed here and there, some holding trays of turmeric paste, others carrying flower petals.
Asthika had arrived long ago, her smile bright as she greeted guests. But my eyes were searching for someone else.
Only her.
I scanned every group, every corner. Still nothing. My patience, never my strongest virtue when it came to her, was wearing thin.
